Dear Friends and Neighbors,
SO RECENTLY . . . the Brentwood Trinity Heights Community Action Group (BTHCAG), led by me, Daymond E. Lavine, along with Liberation Dallas, led by Dr. Cameron Greer, joined forces to bring you The People’s Forum, introducing the candidates running for the City of Dallas District #4 City Council seat. The event was held on Thursday evening, March 13, 2025, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Oak Cliff Assembly, located at 919 Morrell Avenue in East Oak Cliff, District #4. The venue is graciously administered by Property Manager Haley Leavitt. The Q&A session was facilitated by Ms. Libbie Lee, Executive Director of The Gold SEEDS Foundation.
The candidates running for office—Kebran Alexander, Maxie Johnson, and Dr. Avis Hardaman—each expressed their deep love and appreciation for District #4 while addressing pressing community concerns. Attendees listened attentively as the candidates responded to thoughtful and engaging questions.
If you weren’t able to attend and are wondering where the candidates stand, here are the key themes I personally distilled from their responses during the Q&A session:
Kebran Alexander emphasizes community-based collaboration by leveraging data and active participation to influence decision-making at Dallas City Hall. His approach focuses on infrastructure development, business growth, and mindful responses to the ongoing gentrification in District #4. He aims to mobilize grassroots campaigns to ensure the voices of D4 residents are heard and reflected in city policies.
Maxie Johnson prioritizes public safety, reducing blight, and making District #4 attractive for new development. His vision is to bring in essential retail spaces such as grocery stores, pharmacies, and public amenities by working with the City Manager and forming strong relationships within Dallas leadership to drive positive change.
Dr. Avis Hardaman is committed to unifying all areas of District #4 so the City of Dallas acknowledges the district’s size and diverse needs. She plans to assemble a team that will assess each precinct’s priorities and provide data-driven insights to City Council, ensuring that every sub-region of District #4 receives the attention and resources it deserves.
If you missed this event, you truly missed a valuable discussion. However, it’s not too late to get to know your candidates. To learn more, visit their campaign links below:
